Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 Has Hardware Issues, Microsoft Acknowledges

The company is "actively investigating" the issue with its engineering teams.

Xbox Elite Controller Series 2

The Xbox Elite Controller Series, despite the expensive price, had its fair share of fans. So when Series 2 was announced for $180, it seemed like it would be another slam-dunk for Microsoft. Unfortunately, some consumers reported issues with the controller such as unresponsive buttons, drifting and shoddy connectivity.

Windows Central had its share of problems with it as well with one staff member having not one but two problematic controllers. After a request for comment, Microsoft finally acknowledged the issue and promised an investigation into the same. “At Microsoft, we put all of our products through rigorous quality assurance testing. However, like any hardware, there is the possibility that a small percentage of devices may experience issues.

“We are aware that a small number of users may be experiencing issues with the Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 and are actively investigating with our engineering teams. We encourage any customers who experience issues with their hardware to contact Xbox Support.”

Now it’s a process of waiting since Microsoft will need to sift through the various issues and requests, and work through sending refunds. Make no mistake – this doesn’t appear to be an Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death scale of a hardware disaster. It’s just odd that given how reliable Microsoft’s devices have been over the past few years, at least in terms of build quality, that something like this would slip through.

Regardless, stay tuned for more news and updates in the meantime.
