Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 14 has had an eventful year with the release of the critically acclaimed Shadowbringers expansion. It was also announced that the MMO would finally be coming to Xbox One. However, it was also recently revealed that the team was “hard at work” on a PlayStation 5 version.
This was based off of comments that producer/director Naoki Yoshida made at the recent Final Fantasy 14 London Fan Gathering. However, it seems that this was somewhat of a mistake. A PR representative told DualShockers that, “While not a confirmation, Yoshida-san expressed a hope that Final Fantasy 14 Online may one day appear on the next generation of Sony console.”
It’s a given that Final Fantasy 14 will eventually transition over, especially since A Realm Reborn arrived on PlayStation 3 first before coming to PS4. “When” remains to be seen but it’s going to happen, one way or another. As for what the team is working on now, players can look forward to future parts of the YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse story (which crosses over with NieR: Automata) and other updates. Stay tuned in the meantime for more information.
