Along with delaying Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Square Enix also announced a delay for Marvel’s Avengers. The Crystal Dynamics/Eidos Montreal project was slated to release on May 15th worldwide but has since been pushed back to September 4th. Once again, the delay has been done in order to fine-tune and polish the experience.

Crystal Dynamics co-studio heads Scot Amos and Ron Rosenberg issued a statement: “Our ambition has always been to deliver the ultimate Avengers gaming experience. In order to achieve that goal, we have made the difficult decision to move the release date of Marvel’s Avengers to September 4, 2020.

“As fans ourselves, it’s an honor and a privilege to work with these legendary characters and we know what these Super Heroes mean to us and True Believers around the world. When we set out to bring you our vision for Marvel’s Avengers, we committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come. To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.

“The worldwide teams working on Marvel’s Avengers sincerely appreciate the support you’ve shown us. We thrive on your enthusiasm and feedback and we can’t wait to show you more. We apologize for the delay. We’re confident it will be worth the wait.”

While it might seem sad, a delay for additional polish can only help in the long run. As such, Marvel’s Avengers is a complex game, offering a single-player campaign with Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel as the protagonist and an end-game loot-grinding experience with five different Avengers. Refining the co-op and also prepping for post-launch content will also be important in the long run.

As such, this delay might work wonders for the game since it avoids a rather busy season of releases. Given that the PS5 and Xbox Series X are out in the holiday season, could we see Marvel’s Avengers being announced for next-gen platforms as well? It wouldn’t be the strangest of twists. Stay tuned in the meantime for more details (and possibly delays).
