Concrete details about the PS5 are scant (for now), but there’s plenty that Sony have already revealed about the console’s new controller, which presumably will be called the DualShock 5. The controller’s haptic-enabled functionality and its adaptive triggers certainly sound like interesting new additions (though a lot depends on how well they’re implemented)- and if new information coming from Sony themselves is anything to go by, the PS5’s controller might be compatible with the current-gen PS4 as well.

The PlayStation website recently divulged this information (though it was probably inadvertent). PlayStation France, in its comparisons of the PS4 base and the PS4 Pro models, mentioned the DualShock 5 is compatible with Sony’s current gen console (no such detail was mentioned on the UK page). Though the France page has since been edited to remove any mention of the next-gen console’s controller, you can take a look at a screenshot of the same below (via VGC).

There have been some other developments regarding the PS5’s controller in recent days as well. A recent patent filed by Sony suggested that the controller may come with back triggers, while an allegedly leaked devkit image showed glimpses of the DualShock 5 (or a dev version of it) as well. Take a look through here.

Meanwhile, Sony recently confirmed that it will be skipping E3 2020 (just as it skipped last year’s show), but speculation is continuing to mount that they will hold a reveal event for the PS5 in February.
