"Nemesis is his own brand of terror," says producer Peter Fabiano.

There’s many reasons why the upcoming remake of Resident Evil 3 is a game that millions are looking forward to with bated breath, from a remixed story that is promising to expand upon beloved characters, to an expanded and more stunning Raccoon City, to a multiplayer component that looms surprisingly promising. But while that is all very exciting, we all the what the most memorable feature of Resident Evil 3 is going to be- the menacing, relentless, flamethrower-wielding monstrosity known as Nemesis.

In last year’s Resident Evil 2, the hat-wearing, trench coat-clad Tyrant – often referred to as Mr. X – terrified millions of gamers, but Nemesis has the potential to make him look like your goofy, friendly uncle. And that is exactly what the development team of the upcoming RE3 remake is striving for.

Speaking recently in an interview with GamesRadarResident Evil 3 producer Peter Fabiano talked about how the development of both remakes overlapped, and impressed with RE2’s Mr. X, the RE3 became determined to surpass what he brought to the table with the terrifying Nemesis.

“There was some overlap in the development of RE3 and RE2, and both utilise RE Engine,” said Fabiano. “We certainly took some elements that we learned putting together RE2’s Tyrant, but Nemesis is his own brand of terror, and a relentless pursuer who can use weapons.” That, of course, echoes similar statements that have been made about Nemesis in recent weeks.

“During development, our director saw what the team did with Tyrant in last year’s RE2 and was determined to surpass that with Nemesis,” Fabiano added. “When considering Nemesis’ design and AI, we were impressed by what the RE2 team had done with Tyrant but we wanted to make sure that Nemesis was his own brand of fear. You’ll see that when you play the game.”

Mr. X was a massive leap forward in the remake from what sort of a threat he was in the original Resident Evil 2. Nemesis was already quite a menacing presence in the original Resident Evil 3, so if the remake can modernize and revitalize him as well as its predecessor did for the Tyrant, we’re going to be in for a truly horrifying experience- in the best way possible.

Resident Evil 3 is out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 3. Recently, Capcom also talked about how its multiplayer mode, Resistance, shares connections with the campaign, but is not part of the series canon. Read more on that through here.
