Fallout 76 has stumbled from one error to the next on a constant basis pretty much since the day it came out, but for those who’ve stuck with the game, there’s still some interesting stuff to look forward to. The upcoming Wastelanders expansion looks like it’s going to try and address some of the game’s biggest issues, and in a recent update, Bethesda dropped new details on it.

Wastelanders will introduce a new reputation system that will work in conjunction with the new factions that will be introduced to the game’s world with the expansion as well. According to Bethesda, this system will see players going “from a total stranger to a close confidant with each faction and earn a few rewards along the way.”

Factions and their members will initially be mistrustful of players when you first meet them, but working with them “by offering information, taking down their enemies, and completing quests” will see you gaining their trust bit by bit. Your reputation with each faction will go through progressively better ranks, “from Hostile or Cautious, to Neutral, Friendly, and Ally, among others.”

“Whenever you gain reputation with a faction, you will receive a notification that shows how much reputation you earned,” Bethesda explained. “The amount of reputation you earn also depends on what you did to earn it. Completing a story quest, for example, will net you a large amount of reputation, while finishing a faction daily quest or making certain choices during conversations offer additional ways to gain some rep.”

“As your reputation ranks with the Raiders and Settlers increase, people at Crater and Foundation will treat you with more warmth during your interactions, and that faction’s vendors will sell you a wider range of goods,” they added. “By completing story content, you will also gain access to new vendors that sell plans for a few new faction-themed items which will unlock at certain ranks, like neighborly, friendly, or ally.”

Meanwhile, in the same update, Bethesda also confirmed that they’ll be dropping a new trailer for the expansion on Tuesday, February 4th, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Fallout 76: Wastelanders has due out “early 2020” since its delay last year, but doesn’t currently have a release date. Perhaps the new trailer will confirm one. Meanwhile, private play tests for the expansion are also currently ongoing.
