There’s been some doubt around Experiment 101’s Biomutant, a quirky action RPG that was announced back in 2017. It was delayed to 2019 and while the developer announced the Collector and Atomic Editions last year, there’s been no new gameplay or screenshots. Rest assured though – the game is still in development.

The developer recently tweeted out a statement confirming the same. “Let us assure you that we’ve never been working harder and more focused on it than now! We are doing everything we can to make this the best game all of us have ever worked on and that it will be as entertaining and great as we can possibly make it.”

The studio revealed that it was in the process of completing the last stages of development. “As some of you might understand or know, the work involved in finishing a game is long, challenging, and unpredictable. The sheer magnitude, size, and length of Biomutant adds to said effort. We will reveal the release date as soon as everyone at our studio feels confident about hitting that date and that the game is ready for it.”

Experiment 101 also made a statement with publisher THQ Nordic in the latter’s interim Q3 FY 2019 report. “The never ending question when Biomutant will be released is still owed to all fans out there. The reality is that the team is small, around 20 people, so the finalization takes longer than with a larger team. THQ Nordic will announce the release date when they are certain they will be able to release a product that can live up to expectations.”

Biomutant is currently in development for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where animals have been mutated and are now anthropomorphic. Players can customize their own character with different mutations and bio-mechanical parts while exploring the world in a variety of ways. The story concerns the Tree of Life being poisoned and your character embarking on a quest to save it while dealing with six different tribes, each with their own motivations. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
