Due to very unfortunate circumstances (to put it mildly), E3 2020 got cancelled, but even when E3 does make its return, it’s highly unlikely that Sony will want to be a part of it. They chose to skip the show in 2019, and had already announced that they’d be doing the same this year before the upcoming June event was cancelled, while they’ve also been pretty vocal about their issues with E3 as a whole. It’s a real shame, too, because some of the greatest E3 moments have come from Sony’s press events- and here, we’re going to take a trip down memory lane. We’ll be talking about what we feel have been the fifteen best announcements, world premiers, demonstrations, and reveals in Sony’s E3 conferences over the years, beginning with the most recent entry, and then going back in time from there.

So without further ado, let’s get started.

DEATH STRANDING REVEAL, AND KOJIMA’S RETURN – E3 2016

death stranding

After Hideo Kojima’s ugly split from Konami, the knowledge that he would never again return to Metal Gear was heavy on the hearts of everyone, while the fact that he was not being allowed to make public appearances by his former employer drove people into a frenzy of speculation as they wondered about what was next for the mastermind. His return to the spotlight – quite literally – at Sony’s E3 2016 show was almost a cathartic release for his fanbase. Not only was his entry on to the stage suitable epic, his declaration that he was back – in as many words – was met with thunderous applause. That, then, was followed by a reveal trailer for Death Stranding, Kojima’s new game that looked weird and exciting in all the right ways. It was truly a perfect storm.
