PS5 Patent Descibres Dynamic UI That Lets You Directly Boot Into Gameplay

If this does materialize as anything real, it'd be a great new feature.

Though the technological advancements that go hand-in-hand with a new console generation are always the biggest talking points for new systems, something else that deserves a lot of attention is the quality of life features that they introduce to improve user experiences. The Xbox Series X has revealed a few of these already – such as its Quick Resume and Smart Delivery features – but though Sony have been relatively more quiet on that front, a recently uncovered patent might point to similar improvements in the PS5 as well.

The patent (discovered by Twitter use Roxanne) was filed back in 2018, but has only recently been published. It describes a dynamic user interface that allows users to boot up games directly into gameplay. This is essentially done through specific templates in games, which you can then directly load into. So, for instance, if you wanted to jump into multiplayer in a game, rather than booting it up, then selecting multiplayer from the main menu, and then looking for a match, you could simply boot up a template that lets you jump straight into a matchmaking lobby.

Things such as skill, player count, and more can also be a factor in the above example, according to the patent. This can also be applied in theory to jumping directly into a specific chapter of a game’s single player campaign rather than having to first go through several menus, or – and this is eve more impressive – immediately booting the game at a specific waypoint in a map where an activity begins.

As is the case with any patent, there are no guarantees that this is something that will ever actually see the light of day- but we really hope it does. It sounds like a neat feature that would improve user experience immensely and cut out a lot of down time.

The PS5 is currently scheduled for a Holiday 2020 launch, and in spite of various concerns, it doesn’t look like Sony is expecting any delays right now.
