Final Fantasy 7 Remake Discusses Real-Time Combat, Revamped Bosses

The development team talks about combining elements of the original with the new combat system.

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake is out next week and its video series detailing development behind the scenes is still going. The latest episode of “Inside Final Fantasy 7 Remake” talks about the new real-time combat system with comments from producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Tetsuya Nomura, lead battle designer Kosuke Sakane and more. The developers talk about the desire to go with a real-time system, offering more modern action while still retaining elements of the original release. These include the ATB bar, level-ups and stats. It’s also revealed that Materia can be used to enhance weapons which is a new feature.

Details are also given on the approach to boss battles and how each have different phases now. The movement of bosses has also been designed keeping in mind how much more dynamic and action-based the combat is. Final Fantasy 7 Remake is out on April 10th for PS4 – stay tuned for more details en route to its launch.
