"We'll have a better end product and happier team which can take pride in it," says executive producer David Nisshagen.

We’ve seen quite a few games getting delayed of late due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, from the likes of Wasteland 3 to The Last of Us Part 2Another game that got delayed recently – a relatively smaller delay – was Mojang’s upcoming action RPG, Minecraft Dungeons, which was originally due out this month, but will now be releasing in May.

Speaking recently to Eurogamer, the developers spoke about the delay a bit more. Mojang’s executive producer David Nisshagen talked about why the team decided to push back the game, saying that not only did they not want to put undue pressure on themselves, but also that they were not confident that if they did release in their originally intended window, they would not be able to guarantee the kind of experience that they wanted to deliver and could be proud of.

“We don’t want to stress the teams during this time,” said Nisshagen. “We could probably have made [the old date] but that probably felt uncomfortable – partially for the team and also for the players, who we couldn’t guarantee would get a good, fun game. So by taking this little extra end time, we’ll have a better end product and happier team which can take pride in it.”

Minecraft Dungeons is due out for the Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on May 26. It will not have cross-play at launch, but will be getting it down the road.
