With Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake being available for several weeks, fans have had enough time to digest the story and the apparent direction. The question now is: When can we expect the second part to release? Producer Yoshinori Kitasi already confirmed that development was underway but the team is still undecided on how many parts there will be in total.

This is according to an interview in the Final Fantasy VII Remake Ultimania guide book, currently available in Japan. Twitter user Aibo has been posting snippets from the same (translation via Gematsu) and had this interesting response from Kitase and co-director Testsuya Nomura. About the number of parts, Kitase said, “We have a rough idea, but haven’t exactly decided yet. It’s not something we can definitively say. The widespread speculation seems to be that it’ll be a trilogy.”

On being asked about how the next part would be, Nomura responded, “That depends on how many parts there are. If divided into bigger parts it will take a bit of time, and if into smaller parts we will be able to release it in a shorter span. Personally I’d like to release it sooner.” This seems to indicate a somewhat smaller release for part 2 but it’s hard to say at this point.
