Private Division has confirmed that Kerbal Space Program 2, originally planned to release by fiscal year 2021, has been delayed to Fall 2021. In a recent statement on Twitter, the company noted the various “unique challenges” faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are making a big, expansive game loaded with new features, but doing so will take longer than we previously anticipated.

“With everything going on in the world due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we’re facing many unique challenges that require more time to safely iterate, create, test, and make Kerbal Space Program 2 as as great as it can be. We understand this isn’t the news you were hoping to see, but ultimately we need to make the best decision for the development of Kerbal Space Program 2.” Updates will be provided in the form of feature videos, blogs and so on to showcase progress on development in the coming year.

Originally slated to release this year, Kerbal Space Program 2 was delayed to fiscal year 2021, which would have meant a release sometime by March 31st 2021. It was noted that the game could arrive after April 1st 2021 but the shift to work at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic has had pretty significant impact. Interestingly, after its first delay, Private Division revealed that development was shifting from Star Theory Games to a newly opened in-house studio.

Key members of the original development team like studio head Jeremy Ables, creative director Nate Simpson and lead producer Nate Robinson also made the jump to the new studio. We’ll have to wait and see how development pans out in the coming year. Kerbal Space Program 2 will be available for Xbox One, PS4 and PC at launch.
