There are big games, and then there are games that manage to somehow surpass ‘big’ and become something more akin to video game’s version of a summer blockbuster. I think it’s fair to say Naughty Dog’s recent output is at that point, and that goes for their next title, The Last of Us Part 2. And if you have any doubts, the pre-orders will show you the way.
PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan did an interview with CNET about the PS5 where he talked in length about the upcoming console. But the interviewer, Ian Sherr, took to his official Twitter to say that in addition to contents in said interview, Ryan also shared that the pre-orders for The Last of Us Part 2 were ahead of Spider-Man at the same time before launch in Europe. Spider-Man would go on to be one of the best selling PS4 exclusives on the system. While this was apparently only in Europe, I imagine The Last of Us is still in a good position worldwide, too. It’s going to be a big one.
The Last of Us Part 2 will release June 19th only on the PlayStation 4. You can check out the last extended gameplay preview that was shown for the title through here.
Among the things I learned chatting with Sony's Ryan: Preorders for #TheLastofUsPart2 continue to be strong despite the earlier leaks. Example: Preorders in Europe are ahead of Marvel's Spider-Man game at the same time before its launch.
