Cyberpunk 2077 Daytime

Thanks to a podcast on German outlet Gamestar with the Cyberpunk 2077 developers CD Projekt RED, several new details on the highly anticipated RPG have emerged. The podcast itself is only available to premium subscribers of the site, but some of the main talking points of the conversation were translated and compiled in a Reddit post.

Going along with the new details is a bold statement from CD Projekt RED, who’ve said that Cyberpunk 2077 is a huge improvement over their last game, The Witcher 3. As per them, it’s as big of an improvement as The Witcher 3 itself was over The Witcher 2. One of the areas where they’ve tried to bring about the biggest changes is the level of agency players have in every quest, with the developers intent on making sure that players would have complete freedom to tackle objectives however they want.

According to them, the only thing that can lead to failure in the game is death. They cite a rather interesting example, where an enemy might start shooting at you, you might choose to run away, and then for some reason decide to get a hamburger, and the quest still wouldn’t fail. Most importantly, they’ve also listened to criticism for how The Witcher 3’s quest designed relied a bit too much on players having to use Witcher Vision, and have said that Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be doing anything like that to that same extent.

The devs also mention that Cyberpunk 2077 will have thousands of NPCs with individually designed routines that they will all follow. Additionally, the game’s melee combat system has also been improved from what we last saw of it in 2019’s E3 trailer.

The most interesting piece of info, however, drops details on Cyberspace. Apparently, when players are inside this digital world, they will be able to summon fantasy-RPG-like creatures and warriors who will be able to help you out during combat against enemies.

There’s quite a bit to grasp here, but that last bit of info is particularly interesting. Summoning D&D-style enemies to your aid in Cyberspace is something that’s a thing in the Cyberpunk tabletop game as well, so it’s very likely that that’s being adapted for the video game as well- but actually seeing it for ourselves is likely going to be a very bizarre experience (in the best way possible).

Cyberpunk 2077, which has now entered the final stages of development, is out for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on September 17. Stadia players will have to wait a bit longer, since Google’s streaming service won’t be seeing a simultaneous launch for the game.
