Sony kicked off its PS5 showcase event in one of the best ways possible yesterday – by unveiling a new Spider-Man. Or at least, that’s what we thought it was. As it turns out, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is an enhanced version of the first game with a”substantial” expansion.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Sony’s EVP head of European Business, Simon Rutter said, “I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game. There’s a substantial Miles Morales component – which is the expansion element – but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will most likely benefit from shorter load times over the original (especially since Sony has been showing off the PS5’s SSD using the same). How substantial the expansion will be remains to be seen but it could be akin to inFamous First Light in terms of content. We’ll have to wait and see but there should be graphical improvements, a better framerate and higher resolution on top of that.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be launching with the PS5 this holiday season. For more details on the original game, you can check out our review here.
