Of the many games that hyped up (and disappointed) fans during the Xbox Game Showcase was S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. Along with a genuinely interesting trailer, sans gameplay, the announcement that it would be a console exclusive for Xbox Series X was noteworthy. Unfortunately, it seems the trailer was little more than a target render.

In a new FAQ on its official site, GSC Game World stated that, “The trailer demonstrates the level of graphics and atmosphere we are aiming to achieve on release.” It then followed up by stating that, “The trailer is in-engine. Actual game models were used to create it.” This doesn’t necessarily mean that we saw gameplay though so take everything seen with a grain of salt.

Perhaps more definitive is the game’s release window or lack of it. While previously earmarked as releasing in 2021, the developer is now stating that, “We are not ready to disclose the release date just yet.”

Other details revealed include the return to the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone along with “new locations” and a non-linear story where one’s choices will influence “both short-term consequences and global outcomes.” Its world is also being touted as one of the biggest “seamless” open worlds till date which should benefit greatly from the solid state drive in the Xbox Series X.

Stay tuned for more details on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 in the meantime and check out some more screenshots here.
