We’re close enough to a next generation console cycle that you can almost feel it at this point (or something like that). Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X are set to release this holiday season, and well, games will be coming for both. New games, of course, cross generational games, and games built from the ground up, and of course older games being re-released. In that case, it seems the CEO of Take-Two Interactive sees a good possibility for their older catalog to make the jump.
In a quarterly financial conference call Strauss Zelnick was asked questions about the upcoming port of Grand Theft Auto 5 that was announced for the PS5 (and later the Xbox Series X). He then said that he was “sure” that some of their other older games would make the jump over, but said it would ultimately be up to their labels and studios to do so.
“In terms of your question about other older titles being brought to next-gen consoles, we always leave those announcements to our labels, but I’m sure there’ll be more in the future.”
It seems like an obvious statement, but of course, we don’t know what is being referred to here since both the Xbox Series X and PS5 will have backward compatibly with Xbox One and PS4, respectively, so whether we’re talking more about that or full remasters is unknown. Since it’s in the hands of the studios and publishing labels, we’ll just have to wait and see.
