Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was perhaps the standout game announced at the PS5 reveal event in June, which is saying something, given how packed that show was. We got a pretty good look at the game back then, and recently, at Gamescom Opening Night Live, Sony showed off an extended, uncut gameplay demonstration of the action platformer.

The gameplay video shows the same section from the game’s reveal, but offers a much longer and uninterrupted look at proper gameplay. It looks bombastic and chaotic in all the right ways, with combat against a plethora of enemies, vibrant environments, plenty of gadgets being shown off, and more. Of course, the central hook of the game – travelling to and from dimensions using dimensional rifts (courtesy of the PS5’s SSD), was also in full effect, and it’s looking truly impressive. Check it out below.

During an interview following the extended gameplay demonstration, the developers also spoke about various aspects of the game, from its gadgets and weapons to the aforementioned dimensional rifts. They also talked about how the game leverages the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, which is something Insomniac have talked about before as well, while also confirming that there are absolutely no loading screens in the game.

Notably, the developers also talked about the game’s plot and where it will be set in the timeline. They’ve confirmed now that it will be following up on Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus, so that’s confirmation that the game isn’t set in the 2016 remake’s timeline.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is in development for PS5, but doesn’t yet have a release date. The developers did confirm during the aforementioned interview that it would be releasing in the PS5’s launch window.

Insomniac Games have promised that the game will take players to new and old locations, and alternate versions of the latter to boot. On top of that, that mysterious female Lombax from the reveal trailer will also be playable.
