Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Update Adds Purchasable XP Boosters

Ubisoft has added the much-maligned XP boosters from previous entries to this year's RPG as well.

Ubisoft have been including microtransactions in the form of XP boosters purchasable with real money in their games for some time now, with the likes of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Ghost Recon Breakpoint being prominent examples. When Assassin’s Creed Valhalla launched last month, however, it did so without the option to purchase the same. With its most recent update, it seems the game has added that option back in.

As noticed by Game Informer, the in-game store now lets players buy a booster to boost XP earnings by 50% across all saves for 1000 Helix credits (which equates to $10), or a booster that applies that same boost to both money and XP earnings for 1500 Helix credits (which is $15).

Ubisoft has said in a statement that it has added the option for players to boost their progress in the game as more post-launch content becomes available, for players who want to skip ahead, so to speak, to the new playable content.

“As more and more post-launch content becomes available, we want to give the option to players to advance their progression,” a Ubisoft rep said. “Utilities allow players who lack the time to fully explore the world of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to be able to acquire the game’s best gear, as well as other items, by accelerating their progress. For instance, these players can purchase maps that uncover some interesting locations in the world, but would still have to visit and play them to get their rewards.”

Considering the fact that the issues with almost compulsory grinding that plagued Assassin’s Creed Odyssey are much less prominent in Valhalla, I imagine the XP boosters available here will be much less flagrant.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Stadia. In our review of the game, we awarded it a score of 9/10, calling it “a streamlined yet sprawling adventure that ranks as one of the best the series has delivered since its inception over a decade ago.” You can read our full review through here.
