In its Q3 fiscal year 2020 results, Sony announced that total worldwide shipments for the PlayStation 4 hit 115 million units. In the three month period ending December 31st 2020, 1.4 million units were shipped. While this is down from the previous year’s quarter of 4.6 million, this quarter saw the launch of the PS5.
By 2020 end, the PS5 had shipped 4.5 million units worldwide, having launched on November 12th 2020. Sony is still maintaining its forecast of 7.6 million units shipped by the end of the fiscal year, which is on March 31st 2021. At this point, we’ll just have to wait and see if it can hit that figure.
In terms of releases, the PS5 has a pretty busy year ahead. Titles like Horizon Forbidden West will be a cross-generation title but several exclusives such as Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal (which was recently delayed from March to April) and God of War 2 are also on the way. So stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
