Diablo 4

Activision held a conference call for investors on May 4th, and Activision Blizzard chief operating officer Daniel Alegre used the opportunity to talk about Blizzard’s upcoming Diablo games. In case, you’ve missed it, Blizzard has three Diablo games in active development: Diablo 2: Resurrected, Diablo: Immortal, and Diablo 4. According to Alegre, the games are set to “really expand and delight the community and exceed their expectations.”

Each game has different goals. Diablo 2: Resurrected is set to bring a classic game to modern standards, and will even support old saves. Diablo Immortal, which is still on track to release later this year, is intended to broaden the series’ audience and bring an “authentic” version of the classic series to mobile. Diablo Immortal will also bridge the gap between Diablo 2 and 3. Diablo 4, however, is what Activision feels will “advance the art of the action-RPG genre.” Activision Blizzard has apparently seen very positive reception to what they showed at BlizzCon in February. Since then, the team has continued to “progress through important development milestones.”

Whether or not Diablo 4 will live up to the legacy of Diablo, and specifically Diablo 2, is anyone’s guess, but what Blizzard has shown so far looks incredibly promising. We can only hope all of these releases are as good as Activision Blizzard clearly thinks they will be.
