In December of 2020, it was confirmed that BioWare’s General Manager Casey Hudson was moving on from the studio, after having served in that position since his return to BioWare in 2017. At that time, EA confirmed in a statement that Sr. Director of Development Operations Gary McKay, who had joined BioWare in January of 2020, had taken over as the interim General Manager for BioWare while the search for a new GM was underway.

It has now been confirmed that McKay has been made the studio’s GM on a permanent basis. “We’re laser-focused on releasing the types of games BioWare has built a reputation on,” he says. “High-quality console, PC, and online RPG games with rich stories, unforgettable characters, and vast worlds. We continue to work on the next Dragon Age and Mass Effect — and this is a milestone year being the 10th anniversary with more to come from Star Wars: The Old Republic.

BioWare recently released Mass Effect: Legendary Editionwhile work on the next mainline Mass Effect game is also underway at the studio. Meanwhile, Dragon Age 4 is also in the works, though EA has said that the game won’t be out until at least April 2022, if not later. It is going to be set in the Tevinter Imperium, and reports have suggested that it’ll be a purely single player game.

It was recently also confirmed that development on the planned Anthem overhaul, dubbed Anthem Next, has been canned, with BioWare ending support for the failed looter shooter.
