Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines’ initial announcement a couple of years ago was a pleasant surprise, but the time that has passed since then hasn’t been kind to the project. It saw a turbulent development cycle and was delayed on multiple occasions, until finally, earlier this year, publisher Paradox Interactive took the project away from developer Hardsuit Labs, delaying the game indefinitely.

As it turns out, things could have been much worse for the game. As revealed by Paradox Interactive CEO Fredrik Wester in an interview with Nyhetsbyrån Direkt (via Avanza, translated by VGC), the publisher almost cancelled Bloodlines 2 entirely when the game was taken away from Hardsuit Labs. Wester explained that Paradox had “a long review” about whether or not to go forward with the project, and made the initial decision to cancel it, but got a pitch for the game that ultimately convinced them to greenlight it.

“When we lifted the game from the original developer, we had a long review in case we should end the game or run it further,” he said. “Then we were actually prepared to close the production completely. But we got a ‘pitch’ that we thought was convincing enough to run. played on and we have very good hopes that it will be a good game that meets the players’ expectations.”

There’s no word yet on who is now in charge of the development of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. The game is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with no release date attached to it yet.
