Last Week Was the Nintendo Switch’s Biggest Sales Week Ever in the UK

The Holiday season generally sees both software and hardware enjoying significantly boosted sales every year, and Black Friday week is, of course, one of the best periods for that boost. Unsurprisingly, last week’s Black Friday deals resulted in significant sales boosts for all consoles on the market as well, and at least as far as the UK is concerned, it seems the Nintendo Switch enjoyed an absolutely monstrous week.

As reported by GamesIndustry’s Christopher Dring on Twitter, as per data provided by the Gfk, the Nintendo Switch had a “dominant” display at UK retail last week, with its best ever sales week since launch, thanks largely to a bundle that sold the Nintendo Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and three months of Nintendo Switch Online together. While exact sales figures weren’t provided, looking at how ridiculously well the Switch sells and how many excellent weeks it has had, you can probably get a good idea of what sort of a performance it had in the UK last week.

Meanwhile, Dring also reports that the Xbox Series S was the second-highest selling console in the UK for the week, though it trailed the Switch by quite a large margin. Apparently, the Xbox Series S alone outsold the PS5, even without combined sales for the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, though as Dring points out, that’s largely down to availability of stock, with the Xbox Series S being readily available and the PS5 already having been sold out.

Software sales also looking good for a number of older releases last week in the UK, and the aforementioned Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Switch bundle saw the racer jumping to the top of the charts with a whopping 567% week-on-week boost in sales. Read more on that through here.

Indeed. It's pure stock related. Only a little PS5 stock last week, a lot more the week before. Black Friday really is meaningless for a product that's always sold out
