Final Fantasy 7 Remake PC Datamine Points to Eventual Steam Launch

Unsurprisingly, it looks like the PC version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake won't be exclusive to the Epic Games Store for too long.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake finally became available on PC last week after being exclusive to PC since its 2020 launch, but currently, it’s only available via the Epic Games Store. If you want to stick with Steam, as many in the PC audience like to, it seems like you might not have to wait terribly long.

As spotted by @AtelierTool on Twitter, digging into the files and folders in the PC version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake will bring up multiple references to Steam. That in and of itself is pretty good evidence that the game will head to Valve’s storefront eventually, but if you cross-reference the AppID for the game found in those files with that AppID on SteamDB, you’ll find this page, which SteamDB staff (who’re not affiliated with Valve, mind you) have already marked as Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Of course, most games that launch as Epic Games Store exclusives do generally eventually make their way to Steam as well (if not all of them). Generally, the exclusivity period for such games tends to be anywhere between 6 to 12 months, though it remains to be seen how long it’ll be before Final Fantasy 7 Remake jumps over to Steam.

Of course, the RPG has already attracted plenty of controversy over its PC launch. Not only has Square Enix introduced $70 pricing, a first for the platform, the port itself has also received widespread criticism– so waiting a few months until it gets fixed might not be such a bad idea either way.

Meanwhile, Square Enix recently also confirmed that the PS Plus version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS4 will soon be upgradable for free to the game’s PS5 version, while the Episode INTERmission DLC will also be discounted temporarily by 25%. Read more on that through here.
