Rare’s Sea of Thieves has been going strong over the years, and while the community has been enjoying the pirate life in the game, the developers have announced that more is in store for the live-service title. In a recent preview event, the developers shared their upcoming plans for Sea of Thieves for this year.

The first big change the team is bringing to the game this year is the addition of new narrative-driven content in the form of Adventures and Mysteries delivered on top of with the regular seasonal releases.

Each of the Adventures will be time-limited and will last for two weeks, and will come accompanied with an introductory cinematic trailer. Adventure 1’s trailer was also revealed in the preview event, setting up the events of upcoming story content. Rare has also said it plans to have a final Adventure in each season, which will last for three weeks, and will affect the world of Sea of Thieves.

The first Adventure, called “Shrouded Islands”, begins on February 17. You can view its trailer below.

The second category of content Rare will be adding is called Mysteries, which will make players work together to solve riddles and discover secrets, both within and outside the game. Mysteries will remain in the game longer than the Adventures.

Apart from that, seasons will follow the current pace and operate as always, and will be regularly updated with new content. The current season will task players with vanquishing six sea forts, which will also tie into the first Adventure.

Rare plans to share more news about the game in the near future, and has assured that this is not the only thing they have in store for audiences.
