Square Enix’s MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 has very eventful months ahead, with the developers recently revealing the content and improvements the playerbase will be able to enjoy with the upcoming patch 6.1 and beyond. They’re not stopping there though, as recent hints by the developers in an interview with Famitsu (via Siliconera) suggest that a new in-game area is in development.

In the interview, the lead scenario designer Natsuko Ishikawa says that she personally wanted to include a specific line that suggested players would be introduced to a new area in-game, with producer Naoki Yoshida reiterating that the story of the game is not yet finished.

Furthermore, lead scenario designer Banri Oda revealed in the interview that there’s an entirely new continent, called Meracydia, which players are yet to visit.

“There is another continent players haven’t had the chance to visit,” said Oda. “When preparing for Endwalker, I drew an entire map of the world because I had to prepare for a scene of a certain character looking up from the Moon.”

Additionally, Yoshida stated in the interview that he does not want the scale of the story to increase with the release of each expansion, and that the finale of Endwalker should act as the catalyst for future story content.

Final Fantasy 14 and all of its expansions are available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
