We’ve come a long way in gaming with cross-platform play, exclusives appearing on multiple platforms and more accessibility becoming the norm. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of misconceptions that console and PC gamers can have about each other, whether it’s about the hardware itself or certain trends. Let’s take a look at 10 of the biggest misconceptions here.

Console Gaming is Easier to Get Into

Console gaming has always had a reputation for being easier to dive into. In the old days, you never had issues with system updates, controller updates, driver updates, and whatnot. Simply insert the game cartridge (or equivalent media format) and play. It’s not nearly that simple now but for the most part, system software updates and patches are streamlined enough that you can still hop in quickly. No, the main issue now is finding console stock. Due to worldwide events over the past few years and chip shortages, the PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch have suffered from supply issues.

We’ve seen the Xbox Series X/S outsell the PS5 in Europe in certain months due to stock shortages, though Xbox boss Phil Spencer said last year that shortages will still be an issue heading into 2022. This doesn’t even take into account the impact that scalpers have on the current stock that is available. Long story short, if you’re looking to upgrade from the previous gen or even get into console gaming at present, it can be extremely tough.
