Dragon’s Dogma Won’t be Getting FPS Boost Support on Xbox Series X/S Anytime Soon

"There were some unfortunate side effects which meant it couldn't qualify for the program," says Xbox exec Jason Ronald.

It’s never a bad idea to go back to a game as good as Dragon’s Dogma, whether you’re experiencing it for the first time or simply have a hankering to dive back into its meaty offerings, and with Dragon’s Dogma 2 now having been officially confirmed to be in development at long last, interest in the original 2012 action RPG is going to be renewed.

Xbox Series X/S owners usually have the benefit of various enhancements when going back to older games, but sadly, that’s not going to be the case with Dragon’s Dogma. When asked on Twitter if the announcement of the sequel will mean Microsoft will enable FPS Boost support for the original game, thus allowing for a native boost to its performance, Xbox’s director of program management Jason Ronald said that’s not going to be the case.

Apparently, the team at Xbox did indeed investigate Dragon’s Dogma at one point, but after discovering that enabling FPS Boost for it was also causing “some unfortunate side effects”, they decided not to proceed.

Xbox added FPS Boost support to an additional 37 backward compatibility titles back in November last year, and shortly afterward, confirmed that they did not have plans to add the functionality to more games “in the immediate future”. Whether that changes anytime soon remains to be seen.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is confirmed to be in development using the RE Engine, though there’s no official word on when it will launch, or what platforms it will be available for.
