Following its announcement for release later this year, Square Enix’s Dragon Quest Treasures has received some new details. Its official Japanese website (translations by Gematsu) offers some information on the story, world and characters like Erik and Mia.

The story begins with the siblings living on a Viking longship before they’re suddenly spirited away. Now in a new world called Draconia, they set out to find the Seven Dragon Stones along with many other treasures. The two travel to different islands, each with its climate and monsters to tussle with.

Players can control Erik or Mia (with their levels shared) and utilize the Dragon’s Dagger. It allows for befriending any monster on the land. As one collects treasures, the monsters will grow alongside you. While Erik is described as wanting to find “great treasure” and make a fortune, Mia is “competitive” and “hopes to someday find real treasure.”

Along the way, they’ll meet characters like Purrsula and Porcus. After the siblings rescue them, they pair with Erik and Mia, respectively.

Dragon Quest Treasures is out on December 9th for Nintendo Switch. Stay tuned for more details and gameplay in the coming months.
