While more eyes are on Bethesda’s Starfield next year, Arkane Austin’s Redfall is also worth keeping an eye on. The co-op shooter is set in a small town overrun by vampires, and it’s up to a group of survivors to take them out. In a new video, the development team discusses various aspects of the game, from the story and use of horror to the vampires’ origins.

Though it won’t have jump scares or other overly terrifying elements, Redfall does have a fair bit of gore and spooky elements. As for the vampires, it seems they aren’t hapless citizens converted to the dark side but a group of human entrepreneurs that happened upon the transformation. Their vampire state is thus considered more of a “metamorphosis” of their inner self. Long story short, you won’t have to feel bad about killing them.

Redfall releases in the first half of 2023 for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It will also be available on day one for Game Pass. Head here for more details about the co-op, combat, and more.
