While manufacturing and distribution lines for hardware have been hampered significantly over the last couple of years, it looks like Sony is looking to have a sizeable launch for the upcoming PlayStation VR2 regardless.

As per a Bloomberg report, Sony’s current plan is to manufacture 2 million units of the upcoming virtual reality headset by March 2023, which is around the time that it is expected to launch– though that number might be adjusted based on early sales. The report states that production began in early September, and thus far, hasn’t seen any supply constraints.

That, of course, would mean that Sony is expecting a far bigger launch for the PSVR2 than its predecessor, which reached one million units sold in eight months (Sony had expected to hit that figure in six months).

Earlier this year, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo projected Sony to launch PSVR2 with 1.5 million units manufactured. Read more on that through here.

Recently, Sony announced that the PlayStation VR2 will not be backward compatible with its predecessor. However, reports have claimed that several developers are working on PSVR2 ports of their PSVR games.
