The PS5’s sales have been hampered since its launch nearly two years ago due to supply shortages, but the consoles has continued to hit impressive sales numbers regardless, especially in context of the situation. Recently, it hit another major landmark in the UK.

As per data provided by the Gfk (via GamesIndustry), the PS5 has now sold 2 million units in the United Kingdom. It took 98 weeks to reach the figure, which means it sits level with the PS3 (which took the same amount of time) as the fourth fastest-selling console in the UK of all time. It trails behind the PS4 in third place (75 weeks), PS2 in second place (60 weeks), and the Wii in first place (57 weeks).

Interestingly, at 2 million units sold, the PS5 has also generated more revenue at that mark than any other console in the UK to date, owing to its higher price. With an average price of £455, it has generated £919 million from hardware sales in the region to date.

One would imagine that as the PS5’s supply pipeline improves, the pace of its sales will continue to gather pace as well. Sony has previously said that making improvements on that front is a top priority for the company. In September, the PS5 saw a year-on-year increase in shipments to the US of more than 400%. Meanwhile, increased global supply is also expected in time for the Holiday season.

A recent report has also claimed that Sony is planning on ramping up production and ship 30 million units of the PS5 in the next fiscal year, driven primarily by the launch of a new model that will feature a detachable disc drive. Read more on that through here.

As of June 30, the PS5 has shipped 21.7 million units worldwide.
