The NPD Group has released its data for software and hardware sales in the United States for the month of October, courtesy of analyst Mat Piscatella on Twitter, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Gotham Knights topping the software charts.

On the hardware front, meanwhile, data suggests the new consoles are beginning to see an increase in sales, with supply constraints seemingly beginning to ease up. The PS5 was the best-selling console in the US for the month of October in unit and dollar sales, with the Xbox Series X/S taking the second spot. Total hardware spending for October was down 10% year-on-year to $424 million, but though other platforms saw declining sales, the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S both showed “double digit percentage” dollar sales increases.

Recently, Sony announced that the PS5’s worldwide shipments had hit 25 million units as of the end of September. Sony manufactured 6.5 million units of the console in the quarter ending September 30, and intends to hit over 18 million units shipped by the end of the current fiscal year on March 31, 2023.

It should be interesting to see how well both consoles continue to sell heading into the Holiday season, especially with the PS5 having seen a major new release in God of War Ragnarok.
