Ubisoft confirmed nearly two years ago that The Division developer Massive Entertainment had started working on a new open world Star Wars game, though given the fact that the game was said to be “at an early stage of development” at the time, it’s not surprising that we haven’t heard much about it since then. That said, it looks like production is continuing to make progress behind the scenes.

Taking to Twitter, Massive Entertainment recently confirmed that it’s looking for playtesters for its Star Wars project, with playtesting itself scheduled to happen in Malmö, Sweden, which is where the studio is based.

Playtesting is, of course, an ongoing process that happens concurrently with development across various stages, so it’s not necessarily an indicator of a project being close to release- though in this case, it does indicate that the studio has made enough progress that it’s ready to let select players get their hands on early development builds and get feedback on how things are shaping up.

Reports have indicated that Massive Entertainment’s Star Wars project is targeting a 2025 launch “at the earliest”. Before that, the developer will be releasing Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora– though reports have claimed that the title has run into development issues behind the scenes. Ubisoft recently delayed the game into fiscal year 2023-24.
