343 Industries isn’t “Actively” Working on Any New Single Player Content for Halo – Rumour

The developer was allegedly working on prototypes for new Halo games built on Unreal Engine, but following Microsoft's recent layoffs, those plans seem to have been shelved.

343 Industries recently said that, contrary to some leaks, it will continue to develop single player and multiplayer Halo games in the future, and while that may very well be part of the long-term plan, it doesn’t look like there’s any new single player Halo content in the pipeline where the immediate future is concerned.

That’s as per a report published by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who says 343 Industries is “all but starting from scratch” after Microsoft’s recent round of layoffs. The studio has allegedly shifted its development pipeline to Unreal Engine, and currently remains focused on live service updates for Halo Infinite.

Schreier claims that while 343 Industries had no new single player content in the works for Halo Infinite, developers at the studio were working on pitches and prototypes using Unreal Engine for future Halo games. However, many of those developers were among the 95 people at 343 Industries to lose their jobs in the recent round of layoffs at Microsoft, as a result of which the studio isn’t actively working on any new single player Halo content.

Amidst the layoffs, it was reported that Joseph Staten – who was Head at Creative at 343 Industries and led the campaign team on Halo Infinite had been moved on from the studio and shifted back to Xbox Publishing.

While 343 Industries continues to work on live service updates for Halo Infinite’s multiplayer component, Certain Affinity is also working on a battle royale mode, codenamed Tatanka– though the project may have expanded beyond its original scope. Read more on that through here.
