Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake is the cover story for Game Informer and received a trailer that showcased some new gameplay and how Luis Sera looks in-game. The magazine features 12 pages of new details, which ResetEra moderator JawMuncher collected here. You can also check out some new screenshots and see how the mysterious Merchant looks.

Capcom originally didn’t want to remake the game. Instead of starting from scratch, it decided to “dial things to 11,” emphasizing replay value and flexibility as the key pillars. Quick-time events are absent and players can now carry multiple knives. You can even beat the game using only knives.

Yellow Herbs are also confirmed, though the classic Laser Sight is an upgrade. Some new mechanics include ground executions to stop the Plagas from emerging and using R3 to issue commands to Ashley. While she won’t stay in one place, you can ask her to follow Leon closely or fall back.

Hiding is no longer an option since there are no dumpsters. Ashley doesn’t have a health bar but can go down after taking too much damage. You’ll need to revive her in this state, but if enemies attack, she can die.

The Bolt Thrower is a new weapon and seems to function like a crossbow, while a new enemy type appears, wearing a bull mask and using a hammer. Other new enemies have been teased, though no details were provided. Side quests are also available, ranging from fetch quests to puzzles. Another nice change is that Attach Caches have perks, like increased ammo drops, so there may be benefits to opting for one over the other. Finally, in the cabin siege section, you can set up barricades like in the Resident Evil 2 remake.

Overall, Game Informer was impressed with the title and felt it blended horror and action well. It’s out on March 24th for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC. Stay tuned for more gameplay in the meantime.
