Sony has announced its Q3 fiscal year 2022 financial results and confirmed that the PlayStation 5 has shipped 32.1 million units worldwide as of December 31st, 2022. In that three-month period, it shipped 7.1 million units, up from 3.1 million in the same period last year. It follows SIE president Jim Ryan’s announcement early last month about PS5 sales crossing 30 million worldwide.
The company also confirmed 46.4 million PlayStation Plus subscribers, down from 48 million in the previous fiscal year. There were also 112 million monthly active PlayStation Network users, up by one million from last year. The PS4 and PS5 sold 86.5 million software units in the quarter, down from 92.7 million year-over-year.
First-party titles made up the bulk of sales, with 20.8 million software units sold. The previous year saw 11.3 million units sold, so it’s a fairly big jump (likely due to the success of God of War Ragnarok, recently announced to have sold 11 million units worldwide). Digital downloads still represent the majority of software sales, making up 62 percent, similar to last year.
