Sony has announced that the PlayStation 5 has sold over 30 million units worldwide. The last major milestone announced for the console was 25 million units shipped as of September 30th, 2022. Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan also revealed at CES 2023 that last month was the biggest ever for PS5 console sales.
This is only the beginning, though, as the console manufacturer is reportedly aiming for 30 million sales in the fiscal year 2023 (from April 1st, 2023, to March 31st, 2024). A new model is also rumored to be in development, featuring a detachable disc drive. Sony has yet to confirm any of this, however.
In the meantime, it’s launching PlayStation VR2 on February 22nd for $549.99 with over 30 titles. It also announced Project Leonardo, an accessibility controller kit for the PS5 that offers customizable controls for players with disabilities. Stay tuned for more announcements and updates from CES 2023.
Also confirmed today: December was the biggest month ever for PS5 console sales, bringing the total to more than 30 million units sold worldwide.
Thanks for playing, everyone – 2023’s gonna be a great year!
