Resident Evil 7, 2, and 3 Have Bafflingly Removed Ray Tracing Support on PC

After recently stating that it would be removing the survival horror trio's non-ray tracing versions, Capcom has now done the exact opposite.

Resident Evil 7,2,3

The implementation of ray tracing in the PC versions of Resident Evil 7 and the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and continues to be a confusing mess. Recently, Capcom confirmed that it would be removing the survival horror trio’s non-ray tracing versions on Steam – which, given the backlash it saw when it tried to do the same last year – seemed like a strange choice. Now, however, Capcom has gone ahead and quietly done the exact opposite.

Rather than removing the DirectX 11 non-ray tracing versions of Resident Evil 7, 2, and 3, Capcom has removed the DirectX 12 ray-tracing versions of the games, which means playing their unenhanced versions is now the only option available on Steam. The same was reported by a number of players on the games’ Steam forums (via Exputer).

Given the fact that Capcom said it would be doing the exact same, and the fact that the company has said nothing about this change, there’s a good chance that this may have been an error that will be reversed in the not-too-distant future. However, for now, we have to wait on official word from Capcom to see what happens with the games’ Steam versions next.
