Shin Megami Tensei 5 launched for the Nintendo Switch to widespread acclaim nearly a couple of years ago, and as Atlus often does with its major releases, the developer seems to be gearing up to return to the RPG and bring it back with an expanded re-release.

As reported by Gematsu, this comes from Diandong Langke Lu Xun, a user on the Chinese forum A9VG. Xun has built up a reputation for PlayStation-related leaks and teases, and has accurately leaked details and announcement for titles including Final Fantasy 16, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, Monster Hunter Rise, God of War Ragnarok, Silent Hill, and more.

More recently, the leaker posted a gif consisting of two frames that together seem to suggest that Atlus will be announcing Shin Megami Tensei 5: Complete Edition soon. The first panel features an image of the 2021 Shin Megami Tensei Online Live concert, which has been superimposed on SMT5’s in-game map screen.

The bottom left of this panel also includes a picture of Stephen Hawking cropped on, which is a reference to recurring SMT character Stephen, who’s based on the scientist himself. Stephen was not featured in Shin Megami Tensei 5, and this leak might be hinting at his involvement in the purported Complete Edition.

The second panel, meanwhile, shows red text on a screen, repeatedly reading “Complete Edition” in Japanese. Interestingly enough, Gematsu notes that the leaker often uses the dimensions of uploaded images to hint at dates for announcements, which means the 701 pixels width of this particular tease could be hinting at an announcement on or before July 1- which, incidentally, is also the day that Anime Expo and Atlus’ 30th anniversary celebration concert for Shin Megami Tensei are set.

Assuming that all of that is indeed accurate, it should be interesting to see which platforms the game ends up releasing for. Atlus has greatly emphasized multiplatform releases of late, and from Persona 5 Royal to upcoming games like Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor: ReFantazio, it’s also started to put its games on Game Pass at launch. Whether or not all of that happens with Shin Megami Tensei 5 remains to be seen.

Shin Megami Tensei 5 had sold over 1 million units as of April last year. Read our review of the game through here.
