Hexworks’ Lords of the Fallen releases in October, offering Dark Souls-like action for action RPG fans. How long can you expect it to last, especially since the world is five times larger than the first game? Speaking to MP1st, studio head Saul Gascon confirmed that it’s around 25 hours for those who know what to do and 30 hours for the uninitiated.

“The single-player experience for us, like we know whatever enemy spawns, we know everything about it, think around 25 hours. For a new player, it’s somewhere around 30 or more.”

Creative Director Cezar Virtosu added, “Seeing that the tutorial area takes more than an hour and a half. For us, it takes like 25 minutes tops. I have some 30 hours or something.” Gascon also affirmed, “30 plus, more or less.”

Of course, there are also three different endings based on which faction you align with, which adds to the replay value. “Plus the different classes, so you want to try different types of builds, etc,” said Gascon.

“On top of this, is New Game Plus. We have quite a few surprises waiting for players. Just as a brief one, you’ve seen (referring to our hands-on experience) that you have the Ancient Vestiges that are always there, they are present. You have the Vestige Seedlings that you can build yourself.

“So in New Game Plus, there is only one Ancient Vestige, all of the others are out, and it’s in the hub, and any Vestige you want, you need to build it yourself. That means mastery of the environment itself.” Vestiges are the game’s Bonfires and can be used to fast travel, level up and rest.

Interestingly, Lords of the Fallen originally had one Ancient Vestige, but while the Souls-like veterans among its playtesters were happy, others didn’t quite share the enthusiasm. “We kept that original vision, but only for New Game Plus.” There are also some “extra surprises” to discover.

Lords of the Fallen releases on October 13th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out the latest gameplay here, which showcases the world of Umbral.
