In an industry that’s been as focused on mergers and acquisitions as the games industry has been in recent years, major companies that have retained their independence have been the focal point of much speculation related to future acquisitions. Naturally, The Witcher and Cyberpunk developer CD Projekt has frequently been brought up in such conversations- though the Polish company itself has no intentions of being acquired.

Speaking in an interview with Polish outlet Parkiet (via VGC), CD Projekt’s chief strategy officer Adam Kiciński said that the studio plans to retain its independence, and has no interest in seeking an acquisition from a larger company- something the studio has stressed time and again over the last couple of years.

“We are not interested in being included in any larger entity,” he said. We have worked our whole lives to get to the position we have now. And we believe that in a few years we will be even bigger and stronger. We have ambitious plans and we are passionate about what we do. We value our independence.”

Kiciński went on to add that CD Projekt currently has no plans to acquire other companies itself either. “We do not plan any acquisitions at this time. Of course, we are open to ideas that could accelerate the implementation of our strategy,” he said. “But we are not interested in purchases that would only aim to include the acquired companies in our group and consolidate their financial results. We don’t see the value in it.”

CD Projekt RED has plenty of irons in the fire right now. The Witcher 4 is the studio’s next big project and is set to kick off a new trilogy for the fantasy RPG series, while with Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty in the rearview mirror, the developer is also ready to move on to Cyberpunk 2. CD Projekt-owned The Molasses Flood is also working on a Witcher spinoff, while the company is also collaborating with Fool’s Theory for an open world remake of the original The WitcherAdditionally, CD Projekt also has a new RPG IP in the works.
