Bloodborne is “Very Dear” to FromSoftware; Studio President Discusses Remake Demand

"It does make me very happy to see that there are still so many people passionate about it," said FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Bloodborne - The Old Hunters

FromSoftware has seen extensive success over the past decade, especially with the launch of 2022’s Elden Ring (whose expansion Shadow of the Erdtree launches this Summer). However, despite its launch in March 2015, Bloodborne remains a favorite among many fans. It’s also one of the few PlayStation 4 exclusives lacking a remake, remaster, port or PS5 upgrade.

FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki spoke to Eurogamer regarding a remake, stating, “It is a title we hold very dear and just as much as our fans. It does make me very happy to see that there are still so many people passionate about it.”

As for whether a potential remake could benefit from newer hardware, like Bluepoint Games’ Demon’s Souls, he said, “I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value. Things you weren’t able to achieve on previous generations of hardware, ways you weren’t able to render specific expressions – [new hardware] sometimes makes it possible.

“However, I wouldn’t say that’s the be-all and end-all. I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important. I think that can be the driving force between bringing an old game to a new platform.”

Rumors of a Bloodborne remake or remaster have done the rounds over the years (with the most recent claiming it to be in the works for PS5 and PC “at one point”). Though it seems impossible, Miyazaki said he’s “very happy” with the demand.

“Put simply, it makes me very happy to see it’s a title with a lot of specific memories, both for me and the staff who worked on it. And when we see those passionate voices in the community, of course, it makes us feel thrilled, it makes us feel very fortunate to have that and to have those memories.” Unfortunately, he couldn’t say anything more about remaking the title.

According to internal documents from the ransomware attack on Insomniac, Bloodborne has sold nearly 7.5 million units as of fiscal year 2020. Check out our review here. As for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, it’s out on June 21st for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC.
