In the run-up to the release of open world RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2, developer and publisher Capcom has revealed that it is aware of inconsistencies in the game’s frame rate performance on PC in particular. In a statement to IGN, Capcom has revealed that it is looking into ways in which it can improve the performance of the game.

According to the company, performance issues in the PC release of Dragon’s Dogma 2 seem to be come from CPU utilisation being a bottleneck. This apparently especially becomes a problem in situations where there are numerous characters on-screen the same time, spiking CPU usage in the process and leading to frame rate dips. Considering the game features more than 1,000 characters, especially populated areas might not be too rare.

“In Dragon’s Dogma 2, a large amount of CPU usage is allocated to each character and dynamically calculates the impact of their physical presence in various environments,” said Capcom in the statement. “In certain situations where numerous characters appear simultaneously, the CPU usage can be very high and may affect the frame rate. We are aware that in such situations, settings that reduce GPU load may currently have a limited effect; however, we are looking into ways to improve performance in the future.”

Interestingly, while the PC version of Dragon’s Dogma 2 will likely offer several options for players to tinker around with graphical settings, the console release of the game only features one graphical mode and aims for an uncapped frame rate of around 30 FPS. Director Hideaki Itsuno has stated that there will be some options in the console versions that can be toggled on and off for smaller gains in performance, however.
