The wait for Dragon’s Dogma 2 stretched on for well over a decade, and launching on the back off massive amounts of hype and excitement, the open world action RPG has got off to an impressive start, in spite of early backlash against its monetization and performance woes. Not only has the game enjoyed widespread acclaim, it’s also seen solid sales right out the gate.
As per GSD data shared by GamesIndustry’s Christopher Dring on Twitter, when accounting for both physical and digital sales, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has enjoyed the biggest launch for any game in 2024 in the UK so far, “narrowly” beating out Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Charts for physical sales in the UK last week were released on Monday, where Dragon’s Dogma 2 debuted in second place. Clearly, Capcom’s action RPG has enjoyed much better sales on the digital front.
In our review of the game, we awarded it a score of 10/10, saying, “Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a landmark release for open world action RPGs. From its thoroughly immersive world and its stellar combat to the incredible emergent gameplay its bevy of systems enable, Capcom’s long-anticipated sequel delivers spectacularly in more ways than one. By definition, it’s going to turn some people off with its many eccentricities, but it’s those eccentricities exactly that make it such an utterly unique and unforgettable experience.” Read the full review through here.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Capcom recently released a patch for the game, adding a 30 FPS cap option, toggles for motion blur and ray tracing, and more.
So with digital data (via GSD), Dragon's Dogma 2 is the biggest game launch of the year so far in the UK, narrowly ahead of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.
