Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Confusing Retry Battle Screen Has Been Fixed

You will no longer need a working knowledge of theoretical physics and quantum mechanics to figure out what the heck the retry screen's many options mean.

Square Enix recently released a patch for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth that fixed an issue preventing the Platinum Trophy unlocking for some players, though it turns out the update also fixed another minor issue that players have discovered in the last few days.

After each failed battle, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth takes players to a menu screen where they have the option to retry the battle or load the game from their previous save, though during the game’s final boss fight, that screen takes on a slightly different form, offering multiple different options in case you want to go back to specific points in the multi-phase fight rather than having to do it all over again.

Prior to the patch, that specific retry battle screen was criticized by players for being too confusing, with multiple different options – Retry from Before Current Battle, Retry from This Battle, and Retry from Before Battle – not clearly explaining what they specifically meant. Now, however, following the recent patch, that issue has been addressed. As reported by IGN, the first option (“Retry Before Current Battle”) has been changed to “Retry from Current Phase”, which makes things significantly clearer.

This is, of course, a minor change in the grand scheme of things, but you’d be surprised how many players brought up this issue over the last few weeks.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is available on PS5. Recent reports have claimed that the game is underperforming where sales are concerned, allegedly having sold about half of what 2020’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake did in a similar timeframe. Read more on that through here.
