Monster Hunter Wilds - Switchaxe

Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds is changing things up with armor, allowing players to wear any piece regardless of gender (a heavily-requested feature for years). However, the more things change, the more they remain the same, especially with Layered Armor.

In a new interview with YouTuber Rurikhan (transcription via MP1st), game director Yuya Tokuda confirmed Layered Armor becomes available after a “certain point” in the game. “Once you unlock it, you’ll freely be able to create any layered armor that you want, and we also have plans to make some extra special layered armor that will be available as DLC.” Of course, how early it becomes available is unknown.

However, like previous entries, Layered Armor will remain strictly cosmetic. When explicitly asked about DLC for the franchise potentially offering materials or pay-to-win items and whether the plan is still “aesthetic only”, Tokuda responded, “We’re sticking with the same direction we’ve always had.”

Monster Hunter Wilds launches in early 2025 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out the latest trailer here, featuring some new and familiar monsters. You can watch more extensive gameplay from the Gamescom demo here, which was confirmed to run at 30 frames per second on consoles.
