Astro Bot has launched for PS5, and as many had hoped, it has delivered an all-time great platforming experience. It’s become the best reviewed game of the year, and happily enough, that acclaim is seemingly being reflected in its initial sales as well- in Japan, at least.

Caught by @Genki_JPN on Twitter, over on Amazon Japan, not only is Astro Bot currently the No. 1 best-seller, it has also sold out, and is being shown as being temporarily out of stock. With the game having only just released, Sony has obviously yet to provide initial details on how it’s selling, but this is certainly a decent indicator of how it has started in Japan. Whether or not it matches that sales elsewhere remains to be seen, but the widespread critical acclaim and strong word of mouth would suggest that it might.

In our review of the game, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Astro Bot is a wonderful love letter to all things PlayStation, and an exceptional platformer in its own right. If you own a PS5, you need to play this game.” Read the full review through here.

Astro Bot is also set to receive post-launch DLC, with Team Asobi confirming that it will be adding at least 15 free levels.
